During the end of the 1800s, Skagen became the home of an artists’ settlement, mainly made up of Scandinavian painters. Skagens Museum offers paintings, drawings and sculptures made by the numerous artists who visited Skagen in the period from 1870 to 1930. The museum is home to major work by P.S. Krøyer, Anna Ancher and Laurits Tuxen who painted some of the most famous Danish paintings. Apart from this collection, the museum also offers temporary exhibitions. In the museum gardens, you will find "Havehuset” which was the first home of painters Anna and Michael Ancher. Today, Havehuset is a coffee house where you can buy home-made cakes.
