Schackenborg Slot is located in the idyllic town of Møgeltønder, approx. 8 kilometres from West Coast Cycle Route, and you can go there by following panoramic route 401. The castle was built in 1664 on the foundation of the old fortress of Møgeltønderhus which count and general Hans Schack was given by king Frederic III. Following 11 generations of the Schack family, the castle was handed over to His Royal Highness Prince Joachim in 1978. Today, this is the second home of the prince and his family. The shallow-tailed flag in the park shows whether or not the royals are staying at the castle.
