From 1945 to 1949, the biggest refugee camp in Denmark was located in the plantation of Aal Plantage by the town of Oksbøl. This camp was home to 35,000 German refugees following WW II. In the plantation, you can still see the remnants of this refugee camp, including the graveyard and the field hospital.
From 2022 onwards, you will be able to visit FLUGT, a completely new and modern museum, which has been designed by BIG | Bjarke Ingels Group and tells the stories of escapes and refugees.
