Ballum Sluse is a sluice facility located by the outlet of the stream of Brede Å. The sluice is part of the dike of Ballum-Astrupdiget and together they protect the area of Ballum Enge, located behind the dike, against flooding in case of storm surges. The construction of this sluice was initiated in 1914 but was then delayed due to WW I. Large parts of the facility were built by French and Russian prisoners of war and the sluice facility was completed in 1915. Close to the sluice is the inn of Ballum Slusekro which was constructed the same year, and this is a popular place for a break when visiting the sluice.
